My Mission

Faith

The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One. Many ordinary treasures may be denied him, or if he is allowed to have them, the enjoyment of them will be so tempered that they will never be necessary to his happiness. Or if he must see them go, one after one, he will scarcely feel a sense of loss, for having the Source of all things he has in One all satisfaction, all pleasure, all delight.

— A.W. Tozer

Family

The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.

– Billy Graham

Football

Don’t walk through life just playing football. Don’t walk through life just being an athlete. Athletics will fade. Character and integrity and really making an impact on someone’s life, that’s the ultimate vision, that’s the ultimate goal – bottom line.

– Ray Lewis

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Philippians 3:13-14, NLT

Every life is an incredible miracle.

The Mystery of conception, the Miracle of birth and the diversity of life’s experiences are to be pondered and appreciated. Reflecting on our unique experiences adds substantially to the wonder and amazement. I do hope that some aspect of my journey, my adventure will be an encouragement to others.

In brief, my first 24 years were like a lonely battleground as I tried to discover my identity. My Marriage to Lore launched a new sense of fulfillment. Suddenly and unexpectedly I became a Football star with the Rough Riders.

Then, most surprisingly, I became a Christian and my wife and children have followed in this step of Faith.

The World suddenly opened up to me and my sense of purpose was beginning to form.

In 1984 I was “given”

Surprised by Joy

This sub-title was selected because of the incredible life of the man who authored many books, including one with this very title – Surprised by Joy (published by HarperCollins).

C.S. Lewis, as a professor at Cambridge, became a popular lecturer and remained an atheist during those years. But in 1929 he wrote “I gave in” and admitted that God was God.

After admitting that God was God, that which he continued to fear came upon him and he knelt and prayed! He saw the most shining and obvious thing… the Divine humility which will accept a convert even on such terms.

He then wrote that the hardness of God is kinder than the softness of men. Surprise!!

Perhaps the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England. As a Writer he was without peer. He wrote five best selling works including The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity.

He died at home in Oxford in November 1963.

We were not a good team. We were about to miss the Playoffs for the first time in 10 years. But then… this…
